Robert Earl Keen Christmas with Shinyribs
|
12/21/19
|
ACL Live
|
The theme was "Countdown to Christmas", so the show was focused on the 60's and the 50th anniversary of the moon landing.
The set was decorated with both Christmas and lunar landing props, and members of Robert Earl Keen's band
dressed in costume and performed space-themed songs by David Bowie, R.E.M., Elton John, and the 5th Dimension.
Shinyribs and his band put on an energetic opening set and joined Robert Earl's band during several of his songs.
And of course, we heard "Merry Christmas from the Family".
Here are some photos from the show.

Zilker Park

I only attended Sunday of weekend one this year. The main bands that I had hoped to see were Billy Strings, Mumford and Sons, and Kacey Musgraves.
Billy Strings and Mumford and Sons were excellent, as I expected. But Kacey Musgraves was logistically difficult, so I spent that time slot at an unexpectedly
good set by Bruce Hornsby and the Noisemakers. Other acts that I saw included Cleopatrick, Nilüfer Yanya, Thomas Csorba, Idles, Koffee, Rebelution,
and Griz. Here is
a review and an interview with Billy Strings following his set.

The Flesh Eaters are a punk band that mainly played in L.A. in the late 70's and early 80's.
Except that your average punk band is not made up of members of The Blasters (Dave Alvin - guitar, Bill Bateman - drums),
X (John Doe - bass, D.J. Bonebrake - vibes and percussion), and Los Lobos (Steve Berlin - sax),
led by vocalist Chris Desjardins (Chris D.). The opener, Texacala Jones, was also a noted L.A. punk performer from the same era.
