This first weekend of the 1998 New Orleans Jazz and
Heritage Festival was one of the best ever -- cool, dry
weather, great food, a killer line-up, and a new layout at the
Fairgrounds that provided room to move despite record
crowds, PLUS one of the weirdest experiences ever at
Ernie K-Doe's Mother-in-Law Lounge.

SUNDAY NIGHT, AROUND TOWN
Etta James & the Roots Band, plus Davell Crawford The House of Blues Etta James at The House of BluesAbsolutely one of the best live music shows I've ever seen  -- Etta has a great big voice, a talented and tight band (which was joined on guitar by Leo Nocentelli), wonderful material, and not only that -- she's really raunchy too, in a classic blues sort of way.
