saw the DEAD last night at willies picnic.

here are my observations, flame away if you feel the need, but htis is my experience. Joan has got to be
reigned in. the band wasted like 20 minutes with completely AIMLESS noodling while she pranced around and
rapped during mojo. she is singing WAY too much. it broke my heart to hear her sing china doll, it sounded
nice, but it was like karyoke. remeber the immense power in jerry's fragile voice? i dont think she should
be singing certain tunes like china doll, comes a time etc, jerry bared his soul on these songs. completely
re-realized last night in my core, the power of garcia... THERE IS ONLY ONE GARCIA!

as far as the rest of the band, the band is overall lacking direction. not alot of charisma...almost sad to
see, when i remember the POWER of the GD. too much jamming in beteween songs that is pointless. the
transitions suck. but when they jam IN songs, it sounds grate. i wish the band would stick tight sometimes
and start and stop between songs more ratehr than have to "jam" the whole set in and out of each other. it
saps a lot of energy. Jimmy has come worlds since i last saw him, he has mellowed out, playing less notes
and more emotively. the notes you dont play are sometimes more important than the ones you do.

well, not trying to be negative, i of course am grateful to even be able to see these guys. in the least it
brings me back to a glimpse of what we all loved. the china-rider-nfa rocked and i danced my ass off. i
would of course go see them again!

much  love
